How much does a valuation cost?
For new items purchased from Leon Baker Jewellers, a formal valuation certificate is provided complimentary. Updated valuations for existing LBJ items are $90. For non-LBJ items, a basic valuation is $155 and complex valuations are $180. There is never a charge just to have a piece looked at — initial assessments are always free.
Do I need an appointment?
For single items you're welcome to walk in during store hours. For estate collections or multiple pieces, we recommend calling ahead so we can set enough time aside for you.
How long does the valuation take?
The assessment itself is usually quick. A full written certificate — with descriptions, measurements, and photographs — is typically ready within 3–5 business days.
Can you value antique or inherited pieces?
Yes. We regularly value antique jewellery, inherited pieces, and estate collections. Our valuers consider historical context, craftsmanship, and current market demand in their assessments.
How often should I update my valuation?
Insurance valuations should be reviewed every 3–5 years, or after significant changes in gold or diamond prices. An outdated valuation may mean you're underinsured. We can update existing certificates on request.
